Certification Requirements for the Charismatic Leadership Certificate

There are two levels of certification: Basic Certification and Advanced Certification:
Basic Certification – How to look intelligent and how to handle difficult situations.
Advanced Certification– How to get a group’s attention. How to proactively handle a disruptive member in a group setting.

Those being certified will:

  • Submit two worksheets  by April 25. Post the two worksheets on a designated location at www.michaelgrinder.com. This is a password location only open to Charismatic Leadership members.
  • Demonstrate skills effectively on May 3.

Requirements for each level of certification are below.  There are 21 nonverbal patterns in The Elusive Obvious system.  Basic Certification requires demonstration of 9 patterns (Patterns 1, 2, 4, 8, 9, 17-19, 21) and Advanced requires and additional 3 patterns (Patterns 6, 14, 20).

Basic Certification Demonstration
Through the scenario look intelligent (21) by:

  •    Talking with varying gestures
  •    Pausing with Frozen Hand Gesture (9)
    •         Lip closed
    •         Hand, head and gesture still during inhalation (21)
  •     Talking and moving gesture simultaneous (18)

Handle Difficult Situations: How to Give Bad News and Not Get Shot.

Look at a person (1) and say something positive. Have at least three pauses (9). Use an approachable voice pattern (4).

Then transition to a paper or flipchart by having your eye and hand move simultaneously from eye contact with the person to the paper or flipchart (2). You have the option of talking during the transition (18).

At the paper say something negative/volatile, using a calm, credible (pilot) voice pattern (4). Have at least three pauses (9). Pause with a Frozen Hand Gesture (9). Be breathing abdominally (17).

After the pause (19), break your body posture and breathe at the same time (19). If you are seated, swing away from the person (2) and make eye contact (1). Talk without any residue from the negative topic (8).

Advanced Certification
Do “Basic Certification Demonstration” plus
1. Demonstrate the ability to use a loud voice (6) to get the person/people’s attention. Pause with a frozen gesture.  Then talk in a soft voice for one or two sentences/phrases.

2. (20) Demonstrate the ability to use 2 voice patterns. One voice pattern that is flat and curls down at the end of what is said and another voice pattern that is rhythmic and curls up at the end. Each voice pattern is done twice: once with the recommended breathing pattern (abdominal) and once without the recommended pattern (high or shallow breathing). This will result in 4 patterns total.
Voice                                             +     Breathing        =
1. Flat voice that curls down     +    abdominal       =      recommended
2. Flat voice that curls down     +    high/shallow   =      not recommended
3. Rhythmic voice that curls up +    abdominal      =      recommended
4. Rhythmic voice that curls up +    high/shallow  =       not recommended

Advanced Demonstration – Handling turbulence in a group

Do “Certification Demonstration” plus one of the two variations of this requirement.

Description of skills without reference to the pattern:

—Variation one: Reaction to Proactive
Conditions:
You are standing or seated with a group.
One individual either talks a lot or is a bully
The individual is starting to talk for the second time about his viewpoint; the individual repeating himself confuses the group. As the person is talking, you write down what the person is saying on a flipchart so the group can see.

The individual starts to say the same perspective a third time; the group is annoyed.  You interrupt the individual by having your palm down towards the individual, but you are not making eye contact.  You say, “Is what you are saying any different than (keep hand towards the “I” and with other hand and eye look at where you wrote down what the individual previously said) THIS?”  The group appreciates your managing the individual.

—Variation two: Proactive
Conditions:
You are standing or seated with a group.
One individual either talks a lot or is a bully

You know before the meeting starts that an individual is likely to say a perspective that the group is tired of hearing. You open with a friendly voice saying, “Thank you for coming today. You pause and then say, “Our agenda is … (as you are speaking you have turned your eyes, hand and feet towards a flipchart that has the agenda topic).

Then you pause and while still looking at the flipchart say, “Before we begin we want to be mindful of (you say the person’s name without looking at him) perspective.”

Description of skills with reference to the pattern number:

—Variation one: Reaction to Proactive
Conditions:
You are standing or seated with a group.
One individual either talks a lot or is a bully
The individual is starting to talk for the second time about his viewpoint; the individual repeating himself confuses the group. As the person is talking, you write down (1) what the person is saying on a flipchart so the group can see.

The individual starts to say the same perspective a third time; the group is annoyed.  You interrupt the individual by having your palm down towards the individual (14), but you are not making eye-contact (1). You say, “Is what you are saying (initially your voice is approachable (4) but becomes flatter towards the end of the sentence) any different than (keep hand towards the “I” and with other hand and eye look at where you wrote down what the individual previously said) THIS?” (the “ABOVE” of 6)  The group appreciates your managing the individual.

—Variation two: Proactive
Conditions:
You are standing or seated with a group.
One individual either talks a lot or is a bully

You know before the meeting starts that an individual is likely to say a perspective that the group is tired of hearing. You open with a friendly voice (4) saying, “Thank you for coming today. You pause (21 and 9) and then say, “Our agenda is … (as you are speaking you have turned (2) your eyes, hand and feet towards a flipchart that has the agenda topic) (1).

Then you pause and while still looking at the flipchart say, “Before we begin we want to be mindful of (you say the person’s name without looking at him) perspective.”
