Program:

The relationships between the teacher and students and the students amongst themselves are critical for a positive learning atmosphere. The course focuses on utilizing group dynamics for such an atmosphere; this program is preventive management. The program will shift how you mentally think about your classroom. The program outlines practical strategies for:

• Forming a cohesive class
• Identifying and utilizing class leaders, barometers and liaisons
• Recognizing and responding to the natural stages of irritability
• Acknowledging and handling the “seasons” of the school year
• Fostering a healthy atmosphere including dealing with the negative effects of stereotyping.

Audience:

This program is designed for 2nd – 12th grade regular education teachers who are in their third year and above.

Enrollment:

For the best possible learning we are limiting the enrollment to 40 educators.

Dates:

We will meet once a month for 5 months: Nov. 7-8, Dec. 5-6, 2008, Jan. 9-10, Feb. 6-7, March 6-7, 2009. The format of meeting once a month for 5 months guarantees that effective habits will be formed.

Hours:

Friday night 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

9 quarter credits are available through Chapman University for an additional $230
(90 hours); + instructors’ fee; Clock Hours: (45 hours):  + instructors’ fee. 

Book:

A Healthy Classroom by Michael Grinder – $34.95 + tax if applicable

Requirements:

Fill out a one-page worksheet from the book each week. The worksheets are on this web site, www.michaelgrinder.com. They are electronically sent to Michael, he and Krista personally respond. No outside reading, other than Michael’s book A Healthy Classroom, required; no final paper required.

Cost:

For the training only:

$597.96 + tax	5 payments of $119.59 + tax

For the training and 9 Chapman quarter credits:

$810.53 + tax	5 payments of $162.10 + tax
